Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manchester United and former Germany has now retired.
The 35-year-old announced his decision two days following the Major League Soccer seasons conclusion. His team, Chicago Fire, finished 17th.
The time has come, he explained. To the fans, you made this unbelievable time potential for me.
Schweinsteiger won the 2014 World Cup with Bayern with Germany, as well as eight Bundesliga titles.
He attained 121 caps for Germany between 2016 and 2004.
The midfielder played 500 times for Bayern – in which he also won the Champions League – until joining Manchester United for #14.4m 2015 but failed to accommodate to the Premier League, making 13 league starts in a couple of years.
He was made to train with the boss Jose Mourinho – who later said he regretted his choice.
Schweinsteiger joined Chicago Fire on a free transfer in March 2017 and scored on his debut. Fire finished third in his first time to get to the play-offs but have struggled since.
Schweinsteiger played in seven consecutive important tournaments for Germany, guiding the team to the final of Euro 2008 a World Cup triumph, two World Cup semi-finals along with the semi-finals of both Euro 2012 and 2016.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge saidthe doorways at Bayern are open to their former participant.
A fantastic career is coming to an end. Basti has won everything there is to win in world soccer, he explained.
