Yankees vs. Athletics MLB Pick – August 21st
the Oakland Athletics got off to a start to the three-game series from the Yankees. It was a tremendous feat by Homer Bailey, since he had his best start that I can remember in a long time. Hes had his moments aboard a wreck the past couple of years, but not a moment like that against a group with as much power because the Yankees have.
Bailey allowed just 1 earned runs across 5.2 innings, and the bullpen taken the load as well. Even the Athletics rode that lead throughout the game and got out to an early lead. Kudos for hitting a fairly good pitcher at Domingo German to the As offense.
German was tagged for 2 hits and 5 earned runs in 5.1 innings. Jonathan Loaisiga was powerful for 2.2 innings, but the Yankees bats failed to gather a comeback. We were waiting for the Yankees to get one inning that was sexy and set up a struggle. That never arrived along with the Athletics got a success that was major. There is time for losing games now for the As.
Oakland are in the middle of a wildcard conflict with the Rays. Theyre neck and neck with one another. Past the As and Rays, there is not anything to talk of. The Red Sox are back so their chances are falling away but not entirely dead yet.
Cleveland will be hosting the Wild Card Game in Progressive Field if items hold from the American League. Night presents a second game for the Athletics. One of the most underrated pitchers in baseball now, Mike Fiers, will twist the ball to the Athletics. J.A. is expected to counter for the Yankees. It has ultimately paid off in a large way for the Athletics, although the exchange for Mike Fiers flew beneath the radar without attention. Despite this, the Athletics were able to notch a 7-6 triumph over Fiers and the Astros produced it 18 unbeaten matches in a row. This was the very first game Fiers enabled over 3 runs in home since the season opener on March 20th in Japan. Hes been better than most pitchers against the Yankees, since hes been great holding them into some .245 batting average in plate looks.
J.A. Happ of the Yankees has failed to find much consistency in 2019. Hes been slipping back after posting an ERA of 4.18 a season ago. That was the first season that Happ had an ERA over 4.00 because 2015 with the Mariners. In 2019he will probably have an ERA above 5.00 for the first time because 2011 in Houston.
In his past few starts, Happ has been erratic with a 6.89 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. He has permitted 4 or 4 runs in 3 of his previous five outings. Together with the loss last night, the Yanks are in their last 26 games in Oakland. The As are hungry in the home against a worthy opponent and probably look like the team who want it tonight.
