General manager Mickey Loomis told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio lately that the Saints have experienced”some discussions” to a new contract to the star receiver but would not go into detail.
“We’ve had some conversations, and I like keeping that close to the vest until there is something to report, but lookwe adore what Mike’s done for us,” Loomis said. “He is a wonderful player, one of the best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him a Saint for a long time as well.”
The Saints go-to getting target, Thomas has become one of the most consistent dangers in the NFL, compiling 1,000-plus yards along with a least 90 catches all his first three seasons in the league. As Drew Brees’ security blanket, the wideout is coming from a 1,405-yard season.
A second-round choice in 2016, Thomas enters the last period of his rookie contract, set to create $1.148 million — peanuts compared to his values. There’s little doubt the Saints would like to maintain their No. 1 target happy and paid. If it doesn’t occur within the upcoming few months the franchise tag appears to be probable for the star receiver.
