General manager Mickey Loomis told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio lately the Saints have had”some discussions” to a new contract for its star receiver but wouldn’t go into detail.
“We have had some conversations, and I like keeping that close to the vest until there is something to report, but lookwe love what Mike’s done for us,” Loomis said. “He is a wonderful player, among the very best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him a Saint for a long time too.”
Goal being received by the Saints go-to, Thomas has become one of the most consistent dangers in the entire NFL, compiling yards along with a least 90 catches all his first three seasons. As Drew Brees’ security blanket, the 26-year-old wideout is currently coming off a 125-catch year old.
A second-round choice in 2016, Thomas enters the last period of his rookie contract, set to make $1.148 million — peanuts in comparison to his worth. There is very little doubt that the Saints would love to keep their No. 1 target paid and happy. But the franchise tag appears to be probable for the star receiver if it does not occur in the next few months.
