Two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll will compete for a third victory in April.
Trainer Gordon Elliott says prior to returning to Aintree the nine-year-old will competition two races at the New Year.
Tiger Roll, who emulated Red Rum by winning Nationals, will likely be partnered again by jockey Davy Russell.
Although the intention is not to race him too often during the season, he is also being readied for a bid to acquire a fifth Cheltenham Festival.
“We’re likely to need to head him today and select and choose where people go,” Elliott said in a meeting using Aintree Racecourse.
“He will likely have a single run over hurdles, maybe something like the Boyne Hurdle [at Navan at February] again.
“He’ll return to Cheltenham [in March] for the Cross Country race and then we’ll go for the Randox Health Grand National.”
Cornelius Lysaght, BBC Horse Racing correspondent:
This is no shock – could team and owner Michael O’Leary resist chasing such a piece of history? But there had been some rumblings about the horse becoming too much weight.
Obviously, he’ll get plenty but, like Red Rum, this horse thrives at Aintree, which makes as he dances around them, the obstacles that are renowned appear easy.
And while those people who grew up seeing’Rummy’ from the 1970s will always consider him like the Aintree icon, then you have to be a certain age to keep him at all, thus there is a brand new legend great.
