A hat-trick of tries from Makazole Mapimpi headed South Africa on Friday in their final World Cup warm-up match into some comfortable 41-7 victory over Japan, putting a championship mark down and getting revenge for defeat three years ago.
The scoring started about seven minutes with a neat conclusion, since the Springboks assembled a 22-0 lead in Kumagaya at half-time, until Mapimpi conducted in two easy tries in another flank.
Attempts from Kolbe and Mapimpi either side of Kotaro Matsushima’s consolation plus a final flourish from Herschel Jantjies secured success and helped soothe the memory of Japans famed win in the 2015 World Cup.
Japan must look for improvement in their World Cup opener before South Africa start their campaign against reigning champions New Zealand per day later.
