Coco Gauff beats Kiki Bertens for first Top 10 win of career in Austria
Coco Gauff claimed her first scalp of her profession to get to the Upper Austria Ladies Linzs semi-finals.
The 15-year-old American needed a lucky loser spot to enter the main draw but has taken her chance superbly, and a 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 victory on the world No 8 Kiki Bertens gave her biggest triumph, by standing, of her first career.
Gauff, who had been already guaranteed to split the Top 100 on Monday, would be the youngest girl to reach a WTA Tour semi-final since Nicole Vaidisova won Tashkent in October 2004.
The 97-minute victory over top-seeded Bertens signifies she will take to get a spot inside her first-ever WTA singles final on Andrea Petkovic of Germany.
Petkovic prevailed over Viktoria Kuzmova 6-4 6-1 to ensure she would be within the previous four.
The quarter-finals on the side of this draw view Jelena Ostapenko carrying on Kristina Mladenovic along with Elena Rybakina confronting the seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
