It’d be a”mistake” to punish Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva for a tweet about team-mate Benjamin Mendy, says manager Pep Guardiola.
After Mendy was compared to a personality on a packet of Conguitos the Football Association wrote to City – .
“There are lots of situations with white people where a cartoon will seem similar,” Guardiola stated. “The answer from Mendy was apparent. They are joking all of the time.”
The post was published at 12:44 BST on Sunday but was deleted at 13:30, though Portugal international Bernardo later tweeted:”can’t even joke with a friend nowadays.”
25, silva, played the entire 90 minutes of City’s 3-0 win at Preston in the Carabao Cup third round.
Guardiola stated:”Bernardo is still among the most beautiful people I have met in my life. He speaks five or four languages – that is the best way to comprehend he is.
“Among his best friends is Mendy. He is just like a brother. He took a picture of Benjamin if he was youthful and connected it with this particular cartoon, quite like the image.”
“If they (the FA) want to do this (talk to Silva), Bernardo will be amenable to talk. But first you have to know which person you are talking about.
“If something happens it will be a mistake since Bernardo is an outstanding person. It’s nothing to do with color of the skin or nationality.”
Charity Kick Out has called on the FA to behave after the governing body said that it investigated.
